*Wail*
I've been invited to an uber-social book launch in NYC and I can't go because I have SLA! *wail*
I want to go! (screaming, wailing and stomping on the floor) It's not fair! Why do all these fun things happen on Tuesday nights?
It's not fair... *pout*~

*Go Leafs GO!*
I haven't been following the playoffs closely, but I do keep tabs on my team (Les Canadiens) and the Leafs... I'm glad they did well last night. Back to T.O. for Friday's game... Go Leafs GO!
Right... time for some go Ollie go! Tons due in the next couple of weeks... 2 weeks to go 'til the end of this semester, a one week break after that... and time to get a'crackin' with my summer classes... *groan* I desperately need a holiday!~

*DOUBLE Gross*
Eeeewww X 2...
I'm NEVER going to eat at the cafeteria again. I saw a mouse run INTO the food area... SO DISGUSTING!
And why is SLA such a redundant course? Everything we've covered in the class this semester has been covered in Classroom Practices, the various Practica courses and Sociolinguistics... Eh?
Anyways... feeling a little ranty... and hungry (what's new?) I'm craving bacon and scallops... yum.~

*Gross*
Eeeeewww.....
For some reason, my fridge smells like something died in it. I know it sounds really gross... like I have mouldy things and expired stuff in it... but au contraire.... There's NOTHING in my fridge.
It's like there's a spirit of expired food in my fridge, lingering to taunt me with its smell of rotting food.
It's so disgusting! Thank goodness it only smells when you open the fridge door and stick your head into the fridge...
GROSS~

*Cream Puffs*
'Papa Beard's' is the death of me! I finally managed to get to the place before it closed and after the lineups. The cream puffs there are DIVINE! I wolfed down 3 last night... and they're soooo good, I want more. Unfortunately, the wanting more part doesn't help with my expanding waistline problem.
We went out for our Friday dinner last night. We went to Zen Palate, and it was amazing! FINALLY, asian vegetarian food has found its way into the western vegetarian culture. It's funny, because the food is just like western-styled chinese take-out food... which suits me perfectly fine! It was so yummy... I think I've just found my new favourite restaurant in the city.
Right. Gotta go and get food. We're going out to Avalon tonight, which is super cool! I've wanted to go for ever! Avalon's a huge club in Chelsea that's located inside a former church. How cool is that? It'll be like going to church... but not! Cool...~

*Eureka*
I've figured out the origin of 'the bruise'...
Today, as I rushed to meet Amy at Columbus Circle, I got stuck in subway traffic. The 1 was running behind 'schedule' as usual, and I caught the second train in the 'traffic'. This meant that the 2nd train was constantly stopping in between stations to allow for the slower first train to leave a station before it could pull in. I finally got to 96th Street and hopped onto an express, hoping that the express would overtake the first train so I can catch it at 72nd and get down to 59th earlier. As the express pulled into the 72nd Street station, I noticed the first 1 train was still there. I jumped off the express and made a dash 'cross platform to get to the 1 train. On the platform, there was a 'blind' man with a walking aid stick poking around. I made sure I steered clear of him as I made the dash, so I wouldn't knock him over or trip over his stick. I made sure there was at least 5 or 6 feet between us. Just as I had passed him, he PURPOSELY stuck his stick between my feet so that I would trip. I'm pretty sure this was when I got the bruise... when I tripped on his stick. I'm so positive this guy isn't blind... and he's caused me bodily injury now... Grr....
Yeah, the bruise hurts and I'm whining like a baby... It's a big bruise... *sob*~

*Yawn*
I'm so tired today and I don't know why. I've also discovered a strange bruise on the back of my right leg and it hurts a lot. I have no idea how it got there. It's in such a strange place, I can't imagine where it came from. Anyways...
I finally caught a bit of a movie I've been dying to see. The movie's name is translated to 'Not One Less'. It's a mainland chinese docu-movie, and I only caught the last half hour of it, but it was so good that I want to watch it from the beginning now. It's about a young teacher who goes to teach in rural China and the difficulties she goes through. They're not actors, which makes the movie a documentary, but it's presented in a sort of movie format... I think everyone at school here should watch it and remind ourselves why we came here in the first place.
Gotta get another Discourse assignment done. I think we've only got 3 weeks to go now 'til the end of term... and I think this is only assignment 5 (of 8). If that's the case... I'm going to be screwed in the next couple of weeks...
I've started the ball rolling with my Master's project (thesis). It's going to be part empirical and part theoretical because there haven't been many studies on what I'm looking at. I think it's because people haven't had the galls to look at it yet. I'm being supervised by a professor who's quite well-known for her work in this field, and I'm really excited about it. She's pointed out though, that I have to take care as to how to write up my project though... because it might end up being a little too controversial... yeeha! Just what I want, to be blacklisted by a certain country's government... That's all I can post about my research... it's going to be fun looking at this!
Right... time to clean up my room. It's such a huge mess. I have to do some wardrobe reshuffling... summer may FINALLY be 'round the corner...~

Anyone interested in custom-made jewelry? The Retarded Tuna line has expanded, and now carries a jewelry line specializing in crystal jewelry. Very reasonably prized... The Retarded Tuna line is particularly famous for its crystal Chandelier Earrings... Drop me a line if you're interested in customizing a pair for yourself or a friend!~

*Lovin' it*
I'm lovin' NYC. The weather has been GORGEOUS! I find it quite annoying though how it goes from freezing one day, to boiling the next. Well... I'm not complaining about the weather. It's BEAUTIFUL!
Friday was nice. I went out for a dim-sum lunch with some school friends. Saturday was conference day, and a bunch of us went down to Pace University. Gosh... that area by City Hall really is amazing! It's so nice and pretty! Law and Order was filming down there... I didn't get to see Jesse L. Martin though (boo-hoo).
Today was great! I had a picnic lunch down at Riverside Park, then we got a game of Ultimate going. Got a lot of sun today, and did a bit of running during the game... so all's good. More SUNSHINE!
Listening to Patti LaBelle and Cyndi Lauper singing 'Time After Time' right now. One of my all-time fave songs... It's an odd combo though, Patti and Cyndi. Patti does the song better than Cyndi though... weird.
Gotta work on the SLA presentation now. Ta for now!~

*Yay!*
I love 'The Apprentice'! I'm not going to say who wins, just in case Amy decides to read this before watching the show... but it rocks! I hate Omarosa, she's really despicable. How can someone lie on national television? Grr... I think I've said that before already.
Anyways... there's a movie I'd like to see when it comes out. It's a Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones movie (The Terminal). Looks like something I'd be interested in.
Oh... I've finally broken the Discourse Analysis barrier. This whole semester, I've tried to understand the material and make some sense of it all, but it has eluded me 'til now. I got my latest assignment back, and I finally got the 'A' I wanted... Yay!
Anyways... time to go and watch the last bit of 'The Apprentice'. I can't wait until 'The Apprentice 2' premiers!~

*Schtink-ay*
Boy, do Yert and Myrt schtink or what! Those of you who know me, know that I can't stand smells... The funny thing is that I didn't smell the smell until I started cleaning the tank and moved the pebbles around. Gross... Well... I cleaned out the whole tank and changed the pebbles. I disinfected the tank too. I can't stand germs...
Anyways. Yert and Myrt smell like roses now. They're so lucky to have me...~

*A New York Weekend*
I lived a truly 'New York' weekend these past 4 days.
It all started on Friday night. Amy, Shawn, Channing, Tom and I went to Lincoln Center to watch an Opera. We watched Rigoletto. The first act was awfully boring, but it picked up in the second and third act... and boy was the third act fun! I love the lyrics to the songs from the opera! They were so funny! 'La Donna e Mobile'... haha...
Saturday was gorgeous! The sun was out and it was so warm. Michael had arranged a trip to Yankee's Stadium to watch the Yankees play the White Sox in the opening weekend. The rush you get when you walk through the tunnel into the stadium is just awesome! The game rapidly lost steam... by the second inning, we were all getting antsy and bored, but it was still fun to hang out and sit in the sun. A group of us then went to Riverside Park to throw a frisbee around... and boy am I outta shape. I can't play Ultimate like I used to in high school!
Sunday was Easter Sunday, and I went upstate to Poughkeepsie to have Easter Dinner with Chris and his family. It was really nice to get out of the city, and the oxygen-filled air around us was much needed. Chris' family have a horse, a goat and an EVIL goose. I swear, the goose was out to get me. It was hissing and trying to peck at me through the electrified fence and at one point, got zapped by the fence (heehee...). It was really nice up there, and the Easter Bunny visited me twice!
Today was interesting. Amy, Shawn, Regina and I went to watch the taping of 'The View'. The guests were Larry King, Nick and Amy from 'The Apprentice' and this actress called Elisabeth Regen from 'Whoopi'. After the first taping, we were asked to stay for a second taping (we did, of course). It was great that we stayed because the guest was... UMA THURMAN! She's so HOT! She's really gorgeous in person! I seriously think that she's the most beautiful person on the face of this earth...
So yeah... that was my weekend. Wasn't it fun-filled and awesome? Only in New York. Only in New York...~

*Gag*
Ugh. I REALLY hate Omarosa! She has absolutely no morals whatsoever and can't handle responsibility at all. She has no warmth nor genuineness when she speaks... Tonight's episode of 'The Apprentice' has really shown how ugly she really is.
I'm watching her on Oprah right now... and she's so fake! There seems to be some sort of affectedness in her.
I really like Trump's assistant Carolyn. She appears refined and solid. She's way cool.
Off to the opera tomorrow with Amy and Shawn. We're watching Rigoletto. Going to be good.
Right. Nite-nite. Hope everyone is well. *smooch*~

*Relief*
I'm better now... that's that.
The last blog was a little too graphic... I scratched it...
Anyways... gotta go... I have one more assignment to do before I'm completely over this week.~

*Sweet*
Got an email from my Socio prof. The presentation went really well, and our group received a perfect score for our presentation! Woohoo!
Time to finish my SLA Lit. Review... I need sleep...~
Monday, April 05, 2004
*Wow*
I just pulled my first REAL all-nighter since high school. By REAL I mean no napping at all... I worked straight through. The irony of all this is that the presentation's all done and perfect, but I probably won't be of sound mind when it comes to presentation time later this afternoon... ha.
I'm so knackered now... If only I can get my Discourse assignment done as well today... Seriously... I'm burning out. Between the socio presentation, the socio project proposal (which Regina has very kindly put together), my Discourse assignment and my SLA Literature Review (which yet has to be researched)... My brain feels like it's being crushed from all four sides.
Will somebody save me? Where's that knight on his bloody white horse when you need him? As much as I want to be self-sufficient and a bona fide Ivy-league graduate school graduate... I want to be the Pancake Princess and be swept away by my Prince with the pancakes...
Christ... I'm delirious now, that's what I am...~
*Grr...*
One more bi*ch session before I get a-crackin'...
What's with this Spring forward sh**? I've LOST an HOUR where I could be sleeping or getting this bloody presentation together.
O.K. That's it for now. Ta.~
*Brr...*
It's bloody freezing. It's April, and the thermometer is showing 0 celsius (windchill -6 celsius). Go figure...
I'm toast. I have to finish this Sociolinguistics presentation NOW. I have to get to my Core Fusion class tomorrow. I haven't been in a week.
Yert and Myrt are doing well. Yert rather enjoys thrashing about in the water aimlessly and Myrt's partial to baking under the lamp. Myrt's like her mommy... she likes her junk food. She won't eat her proper meals, but eagerly chomps on her treats. Yert just eats anything...
Right... back to the presentation. We're at 40 slides right now between the 4 of us... of which Cooper has 20... go figure.~

*Darn*
Gosh darn it. Why did that Groundhog have to see it's shadow? It's APRIL. APRIL showers means RAIN showers, not SNOW showers...
Darn it... Amy's cold-weather hatred is contagious. Come to think of it... I actually prefer it when it's cold. You can't take off enough clothes when it's hot, but you can always put more layers on.~
*Stars*
It's true, it's true! The Donald IS hosting SNL! I HAVE to watch it!
"Third Watch" wrapped up it's filming last night. As I was walking along 123rd, "Bosco" (Jason Wiles) passed me. He's a LOT shorter than I expected... he's cute though... in a real cutesy sorta way.
Lui might be flying over the pond and visiting NYC! Can't wait to hang with her again.... that crazy girl. If only Amanda were here too... the 3 of us would have so much fun.
Grrr.... I'm tired. I have so much to do. Ta for now.~
