*S-M-R-T*
This is the first time that people have told me to stop studying. I'm not kidding. It's not just one person, it's just about most women I know around me. Funny... because people have always been telling how important school is and how I must stay in school...
Apparently, a Masters degree is plenty for a girl (depending on what you plan on doing with your life). Seeing that I'm 24 and not getting any younger, going on to do my Ph.D. is a mistake. The problem lies in my marriage prospects. According to my aunties (female family friends and female blood relations) men don't like smart women. Going on to do my Ph.D. decreases my chances of getting married drastically. Only ugly girls whom no one wants to marry go on to do their Doctorates. Girls who are pretty decent looking stop studying at the Masters level (a Baccalaureate is enough actually) and get a nice job that allows for socialising with many different sorts of men from different circles. Apparently, I should fall into this latter category...
Uh... I'm speechless. I have no idea what to say to this. I've only asked one guy on this matter so far... and he says that it's true that men don't like smart women. But seriously, I'm not worried about it at all... or am I?
So what if I want to pursue a Ph.D.? Does that make me any less of a woman? Are you guys out there really threatened by a woman with a Ph.D. but can't screw in a lightbulb? (I CAN screw in a lightbulb myself, by the way).~
